The Greatest Los Angeles Disaster of Them All

Well, last night I came home late
Went straight to bed
Woke up this morning
Something pounding my head

It was a quarter after six
It hit me like a ton of bricks
In fact that's what it was
And I know because

I opened my eyes
And I was on the sidewalk
In what I've come to call
A major aftershock

There was a guy looked like my Dad
He said, "You think you've got it bad,
I'm an aerospace engineer"
I said "I'm sorry to hear that"

Well, earthquakes, riots, fires and floods
Plagues of locusts and famines and mud slides
Not to mention gridlock,
Architectural paucity

But The Greatest Los Angeles Disaster of them all
Was the failure to convert from a
Military-Aerospace-dependent economy

Well, I went to breakfast*,
Waitress said "How you been?"
I said, "Eleni**,
I don't know where to begin"

That's when they burned my friggin' toast
And half the California coast
Caught on like a wildfire
In fact, that's what it was

I left my eggs at the table,
And I scrambled outside
Look to the Heavens
And the skies opened wide

And down in Torrance, it did pour
And a Defense contractor
Said, "Kid, can you spare a billion bucks?"
"Uh, I think you're out of luck, sir"

Well, earthquakes, riots, fires and floods
Plagues of locusts and famines and mud slides
Not to mention gridlock,
Architectural paucity

But The Greatest Los Angeles Disaster of them all
Was the failure to convert from a
Military-Aerospace-dependent economy

Well, all around Hollywood
I heard such a buzz
Said "What a riot"
In fact, that's what it was

A horde of angry engineers
Displaced from thirty-year careers
Were chanting "Bring back the Cold War"
( Bring back the Cold War Bring back the Cold War)
And looting a convenience store

It was just so sad
Went home, and I called my Dad

I said, Earthquakes, riots, fires and floods
Plagues of locusts and famines and mud slides
Did I mention gridlock,
Architectural paucity?

But The Greatest Los Angeles Disaster of them all
Was the failure to convert from a
Military-Aerospace-dependent economy

The Greatest Los Angeles Disaster of them all
Was the failure to convert from a
Military-Aerospace-dependent economy

The Greatest Los Angeles Disaster of them All
Was the failure to convert from a
Military-Aerospace-dependent economy
